Katie Banks-Todd's story is a masterclass in following passion while staying grounded in reality. She grew up watching her mother direct productions at El Dorado High School, caught the theater bug early, and pursued voice training at Wichita State University—home to an exceptional opera program. After working with Music Theater of Wichita for three summers, she made the bold move to New York City with a group of talented friends, landing roles in major productions including the national touring company of Phantom of the Opera.
But Katie's Broadway journey taught her something crucial: the lifestyle wasn't sustainable for her long-term goals. The grueling schedules and unpredictable work made it hard to imagine raising a family while performing at that level. Rather than resent that realization, she pivoted. Today, she's back in El Dorado High School—the same auditorium where she sat in the front row as a kid—now running the vocal and theater program herself. She's investing in the next generation with the same intensity she brought to Broadway, proving that success isn't always about staying on the biggest stage. Sometimes it's about building the stage for others.

And Patrick and I had been the Opera. And Patrick and I had been the Opera.
